Real Madrid defender Rafa Marin is ready to hit the ground running when he returns from a loan spell at Alaves next month.

The 21-year-old centre back has impressed in the Basque Country as a first choice pick in Alaves’ backline.

Marin was previously linked with a January recall to Madrid, due to an injury crisis, but all parties agreed for him to stay in Vitoria.

Alaves do not have a purchase option included in the loan agreement with Los Blancos and he is due back in Madrid at the end of the campaign.

Despite the competition for places in Carlo Ancelotti’s centre back spots, including a possible summer move for rising French star Leny Yoro, Marin wants to prove his worth.

“I owe myself to Real Madrid, but right now I’m at Alaves. I’m focused on giving my best for this team. When the summer comes, we’ll see what happens”, as per Diario AS.

Marin’s stock has risen during his time at Alaves, but with the average age of Ancelotti’s defence continuing to rise, he remains an option to back up Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger.
